Bernard J. Skopp, age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband to Mary Ann Parker Skopp, passed away on March 27, 2017. In addition to Mary Ann, his devoted wife of 58 years, Bernie will be lovingly remembered by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His memory will also be embraced by his dedicated care giver, Shelly Naul, and many dear friends. Bernie was predeceased by his parents, George and Helen Kalafus Skopp, and his brother, George Skopp, Jr. Bernie was born in Bridgeport, and resided there before moving to Fairfield 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School, Fairfield University, and Boston College, where he received his Masters in Physics. Originally employed by the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Laboratory, he continued his career in Engineering with United Technology and Sikorsky Aircraft before retirement. Bernie took great pleasure in time spent with his loving wife and close friends. Some of his many pass times were traveling to see the American West, woodworking, motorcycle riding, and volunteering each week as an usher for his church. He was a member of the American Physical Society, American Motorcycle Association, National Rifle Association, and Sikorsky Sportsmen's Club. Truly a man for others, Bernie will be remembered for his strong faith, as well as, his love of family, friends, and the United States of America. Friends may greet his family on Thursday from 930-1030 AM in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM in Holy Cross Church, with an interment to follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
