James Nicola, age 91, of Trumbull, formerly of Bridgeport, beloved brother of Elena Olszyk, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Born and raised in Bridgeport, son of the late Vasil and Parascheva Demeter Nicola, James was a Trumbull resident for several years. Jim was a graduate of Bassick High School, Class of 1943. He then joined the United States Army and served during WWII aboard the USHS Marigold and USHS Dogwood which were used to transport wounded servicemen from Hawaii to San Francisco. After the war he attended Clark University, graduating in 1952. He later went on to work for the Bullard Co. for many years until his retirement. Jim was a member of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan and had been a weekend season ticket holder. He liked walking, especially at St. Mary's by the Sea in Black Rock and the Fairfield beaches. In addition to his devoted sister, Elena, he is survived by several cousins and was predeceased by his sister, Marie Nicola. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 11 am in St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 10 am until the time of services. His sister, Elena would like to express her thanks for their compassionate care shown to her brother during his stay there.
