Lewis Joseph Burke, Jr., age 85, formerly of Fairfield, beloved husband of Elizabeth Jean Wargo Burke, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Born and raised in Bridgeport, son of the late Lewis Burke Sr. and Ella Kovacs Burke, Lewis had lived in Fairfield for 48 years before moving to Trumbull 2 years ago. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and later worked at the Bullard Company, Nash Engineering, and finally for Stop & Shop of Westport after his retirement. Mr. Burke was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ of Bridgeport and was the bass soloist in the church choir. He also played the trumpet and played with the Westport Community Band for 12 years. Lewis liked woodworking, and made all the cabinets in his home. In addition to Elizabeth, his devoted wife of 60 years, survivors include his son, Edward Burke of Shelton, a brother-in-law Louis Wargo of Bridgeport, and granddaughters Jessica Burke and JennaLee Churchill of Canada. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Burke and son David Burke. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center.
