Marie was born in the "Big Yellow House" of the Foley family in Pocantico Hills, NY to the late Oxel Charles and Jane Foley Nelson. She was a graduate of the PH Central School in Pocantico Hills, NY; Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, NY; and the Berkley Business School in Manhattan. She had worked for the Notre Dame High School and the University of Bridgeport as a Secretary and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft as an Administrator Assistant. Marie had many interest and passions, including history, reading, gardening, painting, making birthday cards, playing the piano, sailing and cross country skiing. As a young teenager she was a Champion Swimmer scouted for the 1936 Olympics. Her greatest gift was her ability to make everyone she met feel special and part of her extended family. Her warm smile and sense of humor drew people from all ages to her. As a mother she took great pride in her children and grandchildren by always being there for them. Whether it was going to basketball or soccer games, discussing politics with her son Jim, hearing her son Michael play in his Bluegrass band, helping her son-in-law, Fred, cater or attending anything the grandchildren did. Her greatest joy was listening to her daughter Maureen sing. Marie taught her family strength, respect, loyalty, perseverance but most important unconditional love. She was cared for in the last few years by her two favorite nurses who never left her side, her dog Maggie and her grand dog Mackenzie. Many thanks to Susan "Charlie" Finlayson who took care of Marie as if she was her own mother and the Stratford Visiting Nurse Association for their care and love and Dr. Alan Nelson and Dr. Ram Gordon.
